    • Tonsillitis is the inflammation of the tonsils, which are a pair of lymph nodes located at the back of the throat. Their primary function is to trap germs that enter the body through the mouth and nose. When the number of germs becomes too great for the tonsils to handle, it can lead to inflammation.

    » The Cause.

    • The main cause of tonsillitis is infection, which is most often caused by viruses. However, it can also be caused by bacteria, particularly the Streptococcus group of bacteria, such as Streptococcus pyogenes.
    • Infections can easily spread through close contact with a sick person, such as by breathing in respiratory droplets from their saliva or mucus, or by sharing personal items like glasses or utensils.

    » SYMPTOM.

    • The symptoms of tonsillitis can vary from person to person, but generally include the following:
      1. Severe sore throat, especially when swallowing food or saliva.
      2. Difficulty swallowing.
      3. Fever, which may be accompanied by chills.
      4. Headache and body aches.
      5. Swollen, red tonsils, which may be covered with white or yellow spots or patches.
      6. Swollen and tender lymph nodes in the neck.
      7. Hoarseness and possibly bad breath.

    Protection.

    1. Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly, especially before eating and after using the restroom.
    2. Avoid sharing personal items with others, such as glasses and utensils.
    3. Maintain good oral hygiene, and you should change your toothbrush after recovering from tonsillitis.
    4. Avoid close contact with people who have a cold or a sore throat.
    5. Always maintain a strong immune system by getting enough rest, eating nutritious food, and exercising regularly.
    6. Avoid smoking and inhaling secondhand smoke.
