This program focuses on assessing risk in the population to diagnose individuals at high risk for stroke at an early stage, and to implement appropriate prevention or treatment.
» The purpose of
- Find people who are at high risk of stroke, such as those with diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol.
- Prevent stroke by providing advice on changing health behaviors such as diet control, exercise, and medication.
- Reduce the rate of recurrent stroke in people who have had a TIA or previous stroke.
» Components of stroke screening.
› Health history.
- History of chronic diseases (diabetes, blood pressure, high cholesterol)
- History of smoking, alcohol consumption, and drug use.
- Family history of cardiovascular disease.
› Initial physical examination.
- Measure blood pressure.
- Measure waist circumference, weight, height (calculate BMI)
- Pulse measurement (check for arrhythmias)
› Laboratory tests (if any)
- Check blood sugar levels.
- Blood lipid test.
- Electrocardiogram (EKG) in elderly or high-risk individuals.
› Risk Stratification.
- Use assessments such as Stroke Risk Score, CHA₂DS₂-VASc score (in patients with arrhythmias).
